The Cleveland Cavaliers announced Thursday they have signed No. 1 overall draft pick Andrew Wiggins to his rookie-scale contract.
While terms were not disclosed, the scale amount for Wiggins as the No. 1 pick starts at $4.59 million, but almost all picks sign for 120 percent of scale, which would push Wiggins to a $5.51 million salary in year one. The deal escalates each season, and if the Cavaliers pick up his 2016-17 and 2017-18 team options, Wiggins could earn as much as $27.97 million over the life of the contract.

Of course, this is all standard operating procedure. What Cavs fans probably care about most is how Wiggins' signing impacts the likelihood of a trade for Kevin Love. There are two key points in this regard:
- Wiggins cannot be traded for 30 days.
- Wiggins will now count as $5.51 million for salary-matching purposes in a trade rather than the $0 he counted as before signing.
The net result is that a Love deal centered around Wiggins is now more financially feasible, but it can't happen for a month.
The Cavaliers also announced the signing of second-round pick Joe Harris, who probably doesn't impact Love discussions as much.
