The Indiana Pacers are going to have to open their wallets more than they initially have if they intend to retain Lance Stephenson's services.

ESPN is reporting that the Pacers offered the unrestricted free agent a five-year, $44 million deal, but he believes his value exceeds that.

"Lance and his representatives aren't sure they're going to be able to reach an agreement with the Pacers," a source said. "It's clear they want him back and he wanted to go back, but they may not be able to come to terms."

The 23-year-old enjoyed a career-year last season, averaging 13.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.6 assists in 78 games.

While money will likely go a long way in landing Stephenson, the source notes that he wants to go to a contender or an up-and-coming team.
