The Golden State Warriors may have finally solved their back-up point guard woes with their reported signing of Shaun Livingston.

The deal also reportedly carries a partially-guaranteed third year. The signing points to a renewed confidence in Livingston, whose once-promising career was sidetracked by a gruesome knee injury in 2007. Last season, as a member of the Brooklyn Nets, Livingston appeared in 76 games and eventually supplanted Deron Williams as the starting point guard.

Given the terms of the deal, it's likely that the Warriors dipped into their mid-level exception to facilitate the transaction. This would, in theory, prevent them from signing any more major free-agents. They do, however, have a trade exception worth $9.8 million that could potentially be used in a sign-and-trade.

Livingston profiles as an excellent defender with the ability to facilitate offense and post up smaller guards. At 6-foot-7, Livingston can also play the de facto shooting guard in two-point guard lineups.

This signing puts the Warriors close to the hard cap (set at $81 million this season), which could hinder their pursuit of Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love.

He averaged 8.3 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game last season. The Minnesota Timberwolves and Nets were also reportedly interested in Livingston.
