The Oklahoma City Thunder selected Michigan power forward Mitch McGary with the No. 21 overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft on Thursday night.

The Hornets were said to have made a promise to McGary at No. 24, but he didn't quite fall that far.

With McGary, the Thunder are getting one of the lone true bigs in the draft class, a near 7-foot, 266-pound behemoth who uses every ounce and inch of that size to bully opponents. While his production through two seasons at Michigan (one shortened by injury) was modest, McGary combines a soft touch and 18-foot range with his bull-in-a-china-shop inside game to force chaos on an opposing defense.

Still, McGary's production was modest, and he missed most of the season due to a back issue (and then had to enter the draft after being suspended for a year for marijuana use). Those are concerns, but size is always at a premium, and McGary has it in spades.

McGary still needs some time to develop, making Oklahoma City a great landing spot for him. He can run in transition, sets great picks, and is very effective in the pick-and-roll. He can be a valuable contributor for the Thunder in a bench role.
