Luke Walton began his coaching career with the Golden State Warriors, serving as an assistant under Steve Kerr for two seasons.

Now head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, Walton exchanged some light trash-talk with the Warriors head coach ahead of their first matchup, which is set for Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena.

"I want to give Luke every opportunity to prepare for tomorrow's clash," Kerr said Friday, announcing that Andre Iguodala and David West won't suit up, according to Anthony Slater of the Bay Area News Group.

On Saturday, he quipped that he helped out his former assistant by giving him a heads up of the first play Golden State would run.

For his part, Walton initially said he and Kerr wouldn't engage in any trash talk during the preseason contest.

"Maybe between me and Draymond (Green), but not between Steve and I," Walton told ESPN's Baxter Holmes.

The 36-year-old's tune changed when he was informed of Kerr's lighthearted jab. Walton fired back, saying:

"Well, you tell Steve that Lou Williams isn't playing either, so he can have his full opportunity, too."

Walton added that he might use a trick play or two against the Dubs, with whom he won a title and broke the regular season record for wins.
