After winning a second World Series title in three years, veteran outfielder Jonny Gomes is about to embark on a new challenge.

The 35-year-old agreed to a one-year, $2-million deal with the Rakuten Golden Eagles in Japan on Wednesday which includes a mutual option.

"The last couple of years for me, it's been World Series or bust," Gomes told Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. "This is World Series or bust with a little twist. I'll go win over there."

Gomes appeared in 95 games last season split between the Atlanta Braves and Kansas City Royals. He was acquired by the Royals in late August, and appeared in 12 games but was not included on the postseason roster.

The 13-year veteran played an integral role in the Boston Red Sox's championship run in 2013, hitting a crucial three-run homer in Game 4 of the World Series.

Gomes attests that despite the move to a different league, it isn't an indication that his days as a professional ball player are close to over.

"This isn't a farewell tour. This isn't like my last year," Gomes said. "I have no plans of hanging it up. I can always come back or - if I take off over there - finish my career there."
