Milwaukee Brewers reliever Will Smith has netted an eight-game suspension after he was ejected Thursday night for having foreign substances on his right arm.

Smith has elected to file an appeal, freezing the suspension until the process is complete.

The lefty was tossed in the seventh inning against the Atlanta Braves after crew chief Jim Joyce discovered a substance on Smith's right arm.

Following the game, Smith acknowledged that he used a mixture of rosin and sunscreen in the bullpen to give himself more grip. When he entered the game, he said he simply forgot to wipe it off.

The incident is reminiscent of New York Yankees starter Michael Pineda's 10-game suspension last season for taking the mound with pine tar on his neck.
