Rays' Cash on going 0-11 on challenges: 'I'm glad that we've successfully done that'

Tampa Bay Rays rookie manager Kevin Cash is still learning the ropes a month into the job.

While he's managed to lead his team to a 14-12 record to start the season, good enough for second in the division, Cash is still looking to win his first challenge.

During Monday's 5-1 win over the Boston Red Sox, Cash challenged an out call on outfielder Steven Souza's attempted steal on second base. It appeared at first glance that Souza slid in safely, despite the umpire calling him out. However, after review the call stood.

The unsuccessful challenge dropped Cash to 0-11 on challenges to start his career, tying him with St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny's major league record.

Cash, for his part, remained in good spirits despite missing out on another call.

"Yeah, you know, that was something we were really trying to go after at the start of the season," Cash told MLB.com. "I'm glad that we've successfully done that."
