Mets will use 6-man rotation this week to get extra rest for Harvey

Matt Harvey fumed as Terry Collins came out to remove him with two outs in the ninth inning in Saturday's game at Yankee Stadium, his fourth start for the New York Mets since undergoing Tommy John surgery roughly 18 months ago.

Though Harvey has looked sublime through the first month of the season, the Mets will nevertheless adopt a six-man rotation this week in an effort to get the resilient 26-year-old a little extra rest.

The Mets will recall Rafael Montero from Triple-A Las Vegas to start Tuesday's game against the Miami Marlins - a strategy the club will use intermittently throughout the season to ease Harvey's workload.

Harvey, meanwhile, will make at least 30 but no more than 32 starts throughout the regular season, sources told Newsday's David Lennon on Sunday. Mets general manager Sandy Alderson indicated in February that Harvey won't log 215-225 innings in 2015, but noted that 200 innings (including the postseason) remains plausible.

Harvey, an All-Star in 2013, owns a 3.04 ERA (116 ERA+) with a 0.94 WHIP through his first four starts this season, managing a 10.33 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 26 2/3 innings.
