A-Rod on Harvey: 'Wow. As good as advertised'

Adam Hunger / USA TODAY Sports

Alex Rodriguez has faced - and conquered - some of the most dominant hurlers in baseball history over his lengthy career, but he self-admittedly met his match Saturday when he stepped into the batter's box against New York Mets righty Matt Harvey for the first time.

"Wow," Rodriguez said of Harvey. "I mean, as good as advertised. No doubt about it."

Rodriguez went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts, and appeared overmatched in his final at-bat against Harvey when he whiffed on a fastball in the ninth inning.

"It was fast," Rodriguez added. "Yeah, that was awesome.

"I mean, it's fun to see all these great young pitchers come up ... actually not that fun. He's awesome. That's what baseball's all about. Give him a lot of credit. He challenged me. Threw a 98-mph fastball right by me. I tip my cap to him."

Harvey also spoke about the showdown with A-Rod following the game, and said his plan was to mix up his pitches and not give him the same look twice.

Harvey fell one out shy of a complete game, but did improve to 4-0 on the season following the Mets' 8-2 victory over the Bronx Bombers.
