Report: Giants unwilling to offer Headley 4-year, $65M deal
Though the San Francisco Giants have reportedly gotten aggressive in their pursuit of third baseman Chase Headley, other teams may be more inclined to offer the 30-year-old free agent top dollar.
Headley is believed to have received a four-year contract offer worth close to $65 million from an unknown team, but ESPN's Buster Olney reported Sunday morning that Giants are "not on him at that level."
The Giants continue to scour the market for a replacement for Pablo Sandoval, who signed a five-year deal with the Boston Red Sox last month, but the club has already committed more than $129 million towards their 2015 payroll before calculating arbitration salaries.
Jon Lester, meanwhile, met with Giants officials last week and may be a more appealing investment than Headley, who struggled over the last two seasons to replicate the success at the plate he enjoyed with the San Diego Padres in 2012.
