The Cincinnati Reds are in the thick of things in the NL Central and general manager Walt Jocketty would like to address a need prior to the trade deadline.
“I’d like to add a bat,” Jocketty told Mark Sheldon of MLB.com. “We just haven’t found anything that attracts us yet. It may not happen before the 31st.”
Jocketty made it clear that he’d like a middle of the order bat to stick right in the lineupnot an injury risk type player..more sure thing

So far, the discussions have been limited as Jocketty said the market isn't showing a lot of action.
“We’ve had a few discussions with clubs but it’s been relatively quiet. It’s a little surprising.”
Despite Joey Votto and Brandon Phillips currently on the shelf, the Reds have yet to discuss bringing in the recently waived Dan Uggla, though Jocketty admitted he hasn't ruled him out.
“We haven’t discussed it yet,” he said. “I haven’t talked to our scouts who saw him. We’re going to meet tomorrow and go over some stuff.”
Jim Salisbury of CSN Philly is reporting that the Reds have interest in Marlon Byrd of the Philadelphia Phillies and Cincinnati is not listed among the veteran outfielder's teams where he can block a trade to.
Cincinnati currently rank 23rd in runs scored (381), 20th in batting average (.248), 16th in slugging (.385) and 14th in home runs (84).
