Leaning on a team trainer, Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia limped off the field with an apparent leg injury Friday at Camden Yards after getting spiked on a hard slide by Baltimore Orioles star Manny Machado in the bottom of the eighth inning.

After singling to lead off the inning, Machado bolted for second on Mark Trumbo's ground ball to short and caught Pedroia's left calf with the spikes of his cleats as he slid into the bag, sending the All-Star second baseman to the ground in pain. Red Sox manager John Farrell and several trainers came out to check on Pedroia, who took a few moments before getting up and needed some assistance to gingerly walk off the field.

Pedroia, 33, was replaced at second base by Pablo Sandoval, who moved over from third, while Steve Selsky came off the bench to take over for Sandoval.
