Jose Fernandez isn't a man of his word.

Ahead of the 87th All-Star Game, the Miami Marlins ace vowed to throw David Ortiz "three fastballs down the middle" at "90 miles per hour" should they face one another in the Midsummer Classic, but the 23-year-old right-hander welshed on his promise during their third-inning confrontation Tuesday at Petco Park.

Instead of a steady diet of listless fastballs, Fernandez started Ortiz off with a 91-mph changeup, then pumped in several fastball at 96-97 before walking the retiring Boston Red Sox icon on a 3-2 breaking ball that ended up well inside.

Ortiz, understandably, wasn't pleased that Fernandez reneged on his promise (and didn't even have the decency to tell him).

"My boy told me he wasn't going to throw me nothing but fastballs and the first pitch was a changeup," Ortiz told reporters after being lifted from the game.

"We're going to discuss that later," Ortiz added.
