By defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-6 on Friday, the Pittsburgh Pirates helped manager Clint Hurdle accomplish a remarkable feat that only 60 other managers have achieved.

Hurdle earned the 1,000th victory of his career as a skipper, moving him into a tie for 60th place on the all-time wins list among major-league managers.

"I'm just humbled," Hurdle told reporters of his accomplishment. "There's a lot of losses there, too. There's a lot of experience. There's a lot of learning. There's been a lifetime of learning."

Hurdle celebrated the achievement with his parents, which was more special to him than reaching the mark.

"The one thing that I am happy with is my dad's here. He's been with me through thick and thin, this whole crazy ride as a player and as a coach and as a manager," Hurdle explained. "The thing for me is he's proud of me, but I'm more proud of him being the father that he's been through this whole crazy thing."

Overall, Hurdle possesses a 1000-1043 record during his managerial tenure, which includes a 2002-09 stint with the Colorado Rockies and his current position with the Pirates.

The 58-year-old former player guided the Rockies to the World Series in 2007 and won the National League Manager of the Year award with the Pirates in 2013.
