Watch: A-Rod gives HR bat to young fan honoring late father
Even as a die-hard Boston Red Sox fan, David Moss will probably reserve a special place in his heart for Alex Rodriguez after what he did Friday at Fenway Park.
Along with his mom and sister, the eight-year-old Arizona native made the trip to Boston for Friday's game against the New York Yankees to honor his late father, Andy, who died of cancer in September. Moss was even invited to batting practice, where he got to meet his idol, David Ortiz.
Naturally, Ortiz told Rodriguez about Moss' story, and the Yankees' veteran DH decided he had to stop by and say hello to Moss ahead of his at-bat in the first inning.
When he did, the youngster had a request.
"I asked if I could have his bat," he said, according to Chris Landers of MLB.com. "He said, 'If I hit a home run you can have my bat!'"
Sure enough, Rodriguez parked one over the wall in left-center, and Moss ended up with a pretty cool souvenir.
