This is the first time that the Rangers and Royals have met this season. The Royals have won six of the last nine games versus Texas at home, dating back to September of 2013. In each of those nine games, neither team has scored more than four runs.

The Rangers are coming off of a three-game series in which they were swept on the road against the Angels, marking Texas' seventh loss in its last eight games. Since the Rangers' win back on June 28, when they improved to an AL-best 51-27 mark, they have gone 4-14 (worst record in MLB over that span).

Kansas City lost to the Indians at home on Wednesday as the Royals' pitching staff gave up 11 runs on 10 hits. It was the first time this season that the Royals have allowed more runs than hits in a game.

In his first start back from the DL on Saturday, Yu Darvish lasted only 4.2 innings against the Cubs in Chicago, despite striking out nine. Darvish now looks to face the Royals, a team which he has posted a 1.93 ERA against and .125 batting average allowed over his career. That batting average is the lowest he has allowed over his career to any AL team.

On Saturday, Danny Duffy picked up his fourth win in his last four decisions, throwing 6.1 innings of four-run ball while striking out seven Tigers in Detroit. That lowered his K/9 on the season to 10.33, which still leads all AL lefties this season (min. 80 IP; Clayton Kershaw and Robbie Ray have a higher K/9 in the NL).

Ian Desmond has had three hits in each of his last two games, including a home run in each game and his 16th stolen base of the season. Through 96 team games, this puts him on pace for 30 home runs, 27 steals, and 202 hits for the season. No Ranger in franchise history has ever had a season with at least 20 home runs, 20 steals, and 200 hits.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A.J. Griffin, who missed 43 games with right shoulder stiffness, has not thrown more than five innings in his five starts since coming off the disabled list on June 25.
Griffin is 0-1 with a 6.17 ERA, allowing 16 earned runs in 23 1/3 innings, in those five starts. He will start Sunday for the Texas Rangers on five days' rest in the series finale against the Kansas City Royals. The two teams have split the first two games after the Rangers won 7-4 on Saturday night.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)  With the Texas Rangers' defense committing three errors in the first three innings, Cole Hamels had to pitch out of some dangerous situations.
Hamels allowed one unearned run in 5 1/3 innings, Nomar Mazara and Adrian Beltre homered and the Rangers defeated the Kansas City Royals 7-4 on Saturday night.
