Report: Liverpool hasn't talked to Ancelotti about replacing Brendan Rodgers

Liverpool has denied approaching Carlo Ancelotti to manage the club after a poor run of results from current boss Brendan Rodgers, according to the Guardian.

The Merseyside club hasn't won since its fortuitous home victory over Bournemouth on Aug. 17. Pressure on the Northern Irishman has mounted during the dry spell, and makes him the favourite for the next Premier League manager to face the sack.

Rodgers survived the chop at the end of last term when the Reds confirmed a disappointing sixth-place finish with a 6-1 defeat at the hands of Stoke City.

Liverpool is owned by the Fenway Sports Group, which also boasts MLB franchise the Boston Red Sox in its portfolio, and the club has noted it would be out of character for its owners not to display patience.

It may be tested, though. The Anfield side currently sits in 13th place in the Premier League, while it's believed fourth place is the minimum requirement after a summer outlay of around £80 million on new recruits.

Liverpool hosts fourth-tier Carlisle United in the League Cup on Wednesday, and will hope to record a morale-boosting win against the minnows.
