Mariappa, who came through Watford's ranks, spent the last three seasons at Crystal Palace, where he made 49 appearances before his contract with the Eagles expired in July. Prior to that, he took the pitch at Reading, joining the Royals from the Hornets in 2012.
Hull City was reportedly in talks with Mariappa after his contract expired at Palace, but the defender opted for a return to Watford, where he'll wear the No. 6 in Walter Mazzarri's squad and build on his tally of 247 appearances for the Hornets.
At the international level, Mariappa represented Jamaica at the Copa America Centenario, playing every minute during an underwhelming showing from the Reggae Boyz in which they lost all three group-stage fixtures and failed to score once.
