Inter reportedly declines Balotelli offer as his future at Liverpool remains unclear

Mario Balotelli's time at Liverpool might be over, but his future apparently won't be at San Siro Stadium.

CalcioMercato.com reported Monday that his former club, Inter Milan, declined a potential loan deal for the controversial Italian forward. Meanwhile, Liverpool is reportedly set to sign Aston Villa forward Christian Benteke, leaving Balotelli behind Danny Ings, Divock Origi, and Daniel Sturridge in the pecking order.

Club manager Brendan Rodgers admitted that whether Balotelli remains at Liverpool is currently up in the air.

"I'm not sure," Rodgers told reporters when asked about Balotelli's future at the club. "That will be entirely up to Mario. He's working hard to get fit, and we'll see when the season begins."

Balotelli endured a torrid 2014-15 season at Anfield, scoring just one goal in the Premier League. He hasn't endeared himself to Liverpool fans as of late either, praising his former teammate, English international forward Raheem Sterling, on his debut for Manchester City.

He then received abuse from Liverpool fans for it.

Balotelli's not currently with the squad as they tour Malaysia for preseason. Rodgers said Balotelli has been "working hard and well at Melwood (the club's training grounds) to get back fit, along with the other players who are there."
