Texas A&M confirms Virginia Tech's Buzz Williams as next head coach
Texas A&M has hired former Virginia Tech head coach Buzz Williams for the same position, the school confirmed in a statement.
"We kept our focus on finding an elite basketball coach, a developer of talent, a tremendous recruiter, a tireless worker, and someone who fits Texas A&M. Buzz Williams is all that and more," athletic director Scott Woodward said.
Williams reportedly signed a multi-year contract worth roughly $3.5 million annually.
"I have no doubt that Buzz will take our basketball program further than ever before and will make Aggies everywhere proud," Woodward added.
Texas A&M hired Williams after relieving former head coach Billy Kennedy of his duties one day after a loss to Mississippi State in the SEC Tournament.
Virginia Tech qualified for the NCAA Tournament in each of the last three years under Williams. He led the team to a 26-9 record this season before falling to the Duke Blue Devils in the Sweet 16.
