The Minnesota Vikings have acquired running back Cam Akers from the Houston Texans, the teams announced Tuesday.

Houston is exchanging Akers and a 2026 conditional seventh-round selection for a 2026 conditional sixth-round pick.

It's the second consecutive campaign that the Vikings have traded for Akers. In an identical deal, Minnesota sent a conditional 2026 sixth-round selection to the Los Angeles Rams for Akers and a conditional 2026 seventh-round pick in September 2023.

Akers has made five appearances and two starts in place of the injured Joe Mixon for the Texans this season. He's tallied 147 rushing yards and a touchdown on 40 carries while also adding a receiving score.

The 25-year-old back reunites with head coach Kevin O'Connell, who coached him on the Rams and Vikings.

Akers gives Minnesota valuable running back depth behind Aaron Jones.
