The Atlanta Hawks and center Clint Capela agreed to a two-year, $46-million contract extension, the team announced Wednesday.

Capela, who has two years remaining on his current deal, is now under contract through 2024-25. He's owed around $82 million over the next four seasons.

The 27-year-old rim-protector had a stellar first season with the Hawks following a six-year spell with the Houston Rockets.

Capela led the league in rebounds per game (14.3) and offensive boards (297), while also recording the fourth-most blocked shots (129) to go along with 15.2 points, the second-most of his seven-year NBA career.

"Clint is one of the premier defensive and rebounding big men in the league. His presence in the paint and voice on defense had a tremendous impact on our success last season," Hawks president of basketball operations and general manager Travis Schlenk said.

"He is a great teammate who leads by example, and we are excited to have him as a part of our team long term."

Eastern Conference finalist Atlanta now has nearly $100 million in contractual commitments for the 2023-24 season divided among Trae Young, John Collins, Bogdan Bogdanovic, and Capela, according to ESPN insider Bobby Marks.

Capela becomes the third member of the Hawks' core to sign an extension this summer alongside Young and Collins.
