The course

The U.S. Open returns to the West Coast for the second time in the last three years with the ultra-exclusive Los Angeles Country Club hosting for the first time. The North Course recently underwent a five-year restoration process led by Gil Hanse, which helped to restore the original design by George Thomas in 1928.

The layout is listed at 7,421 yards playing to a par 70, a stern test even for today's long hitters. The course may feature wider fairways than we're used to at the U.S. Open, but with many of those severely sloped, the landing areas are much smaller than they appear from the tee.

While there are plenty of standout holes at LACC, the par 3s are of particular note due to their varied appearances. The 7th and 11th holes play over 280 yards, while the 15th can be shortened to just 78 if the USGA opts to play from the forward tee.

Using Hollywood to break down the top players at the U.S. Open

The PGA TOUR makes an annual trip to Los Angeles for Tiger Woods' event at Riviera, but this is the first U.S. Open to hit Hollywood since 1948. The field is loaded with plenty of star power for the 123rd playing of the event, but how would they look when broken down by Hollywood terms? See full preview.
