Report: Boston out as potential host city for 2024 Summer Olympics
Boston's bid to host the 2024 Summer Olympic games is reportedly over before it even officially got off the ground, according to Eddie Pells from the Associated Press.
Citing a person familiar with the decision, AP reported Monday that the United States Olympic Committee has severed ties with Boston as a potential bid city.
With a Sept. 15 deadline for countries to submit a nomination, Boston's bid was dealt a crushing blow when mayor Marty Walsh said he would not sign a host city contract that puts the city on the hook for potential cost overruns.
Los Angeles could reportedly be an option if the USOC remains committed to submitting a bid.
The U.S. hasn't hosted the Olympics since Salt Lake City hosted the 2002 Winter Games, and the country hasn't hosted the summer edition since 1996 in Atlanta.
