Erving, the 19th overall pick in the draft and the second of Cleveland's two first-rounders, played left tackle and center at Florida State. The Browns don't have an immediate need at either position, with Pro Bowlers Joe Thomas and Alex Mack entrenched as starters.
Erving is expected to start at right tackle or guard as a rookie, but may slot in as the Browns' starting center if Mack opts out of his contract in 2016.
Cleveland also made fellow first-round pick Danny Shelton's signing official on Friday.
