Jets fan buys Mark Sanchez's 'Butt Fumble' jersey to protect franchise's honor
A protective (or perhaps simply insane) New York Jets fan just spent over $800 to buy the jersey former Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez was wearing in the famous "Butt Fumble" game, Yahoo Sports reports.
The lucky owner of a green No. 6 jersey that once smashed into right guard Brandon Moore's ample posterior before its wearer fumbled the ball is Jake Hendrickson, a Jets fan from California. He says he saw the jersey up for auction on the official NFL auctions site and decided to buy it so it wouldn't fall into the hands of a Jets hater.
"The second I realized what it was I knew I had to have it," Hendrickson said. "There's no way I could let it get in the hands of an anti-fan or something of that manner to be shoved in our face."
Hendrickson said it wasn't easy to win the auction.
"Every time someone would outbid me by $5 or $10 I was raising by a hundred bucks just to show I meant business."
Hendrickson eventually won the bidding. In the end, he paid $820.
As for what Hendrickson plans to do with the symbol of a dark period for Jets fans?
"For now I’ll probably just frame it up real nice and put it on my wall," he said. "Until we win a Super Bowl or I can get together enough money to put it on a rocket ship and shoot it to outer space because I don’t think it belongs on this planet anymore."
