Warriors match NBA record with 72nd win of the season

Soobum Im / USA TODAY Sports

The Golden State Warriors tied the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls' single-season NBA record with their 72nd win Sunday, knocking off the San Antonio Spurs 92-86.

The victory also broke an NBA record for most road wins in a season, as Golden State passed those same Bulls with their 34th victory away from Oracle Arena.

Golden State's victory was particularly impressive given the Warriors beat a Spurs team that entered Sunday undefeated at home. Reigning MVP Steph Curry led the attack for Golden State, dropping 37 points.

"Steph was just amazing," head coach Steve Kerr told ESPN's Ethan Strauss following the game.

The Warriors also broke a 33-game losing streak in San Antonio, a skid that dated back to 1997. Curry was just 8 years old at the time, as the Warriors won 108-94 behind Latrell Sprewell's 32 points.

The Warriors (72-9) must beat the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday to break the NBA record for the most wins in a single season. Golden State has already defeated the Grizzlies three times this year, with its most recent victory coming in a nail-biter on Saturday night.
