Warriors hand Spurs 1st home loss of season

Gregg Popovich and his San Antonio Spurs didn't want the record anyway.
The Spurs fell short of becoming the first team in NBA history to post a perfect season at home Sunday, falling to the Golden State Warriors 92-86.
Popovich had been adamant heading into the marquee matchup that he could care less about setting the record, and that his players felt the same way.
"I know them all pretty well, and I don't think they give one damn," Popovich told reporters prior to tipoff.
Both teams were chasing history heading into the game, though the Warriors benchmark held more significance. With the win, Golden State tied the NBA record with 72 wins in a single season and will go into its final game of the year with an opportunity to set the all-time mark.
The loss marks the first time the Spurs have lost a regular season game at the AT&T Center since March 12, 2015. They had won 48 consecutive regular season games at home, including an NBA-record 39 straight to begin this season.
Golden State also ended a 33-game losing streak in San Antonio that dated to 1997.
San Antonio has one more opportunity to tie the record at home against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday. The 1985-86 Boston Celtics are the only team to win 40 home games in a single season. They went 40-1 and were eventually crowned NBA Champions.
