The injury ward in the Bronx is getting crowded.

The New York Yankees - who already had six of their players on the disabled list - announced Saturday that two more important members of their roster have been lost to injury, as starter CC Sabathia and infielder Brandon Drury were both placed on the 10-day DL.

Sabathia will miss time due to a right hip strain, while Drury is out thanks to what the team says are severe migraines.

Sabathia lasted just four innings in Friday's start against the Baltimore Orioles before departing with hip tightness. Although his MRI returned clean, the Yankees aren't going to take a chance with the 37-year-old southpaw, as Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports the team is hopeful Sabathia will only have to miss one start.

Sabathia, who returned to the Yankees on a one-year, $10-million contract this winter, owns a 4.00 ERA and seven strikeouts through his first nine innings of 2018.

Drury, who was acquired from Arizona during spring training, also left Friday's game early, presumably due to the migraine issue. He was lifted for pinch-hitter Ronald Torreyes in the sixth inning after going hitless in his two at-bats.

The 25-year-old had appeared in eight games with New York as its starting third baseman, hitting .217/.333/.391 with a homer, four RBIs, and four walks over 27 plate appearances.

The Yankees have been hit hard by the injury bug in the early going of 2018, with eight players now on the DL with a variety of ailments.

Player Pos. Injury
Greg Bird 1B Ankle surgery
Jacoby Ellsbury OF Oblique strain
Clint Frazier OF Concussion
Aaron Hicks OF Intercostal strain
Billy McKinney OF Shoulder strain
Ben Heller RP Bone spurs*
CC Sabathia SP Hip strain
Brandon Drury IF Severe migraines

*Heller is on 60-day DL

They got another scare late in Friday's game when star catcher Gary Sanchez had to leave in the 14th inning because of a leg cramp. Sanchez is not in the Yankees' lineup for Saturday's game against Baltimore.

In a series of corresponding roster moves, the Yankees recalled right-handers Luis Cessa and Domingo German from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and selected the contract of utility man Jace Peterson after signing him to a minor-league deal. Peterson will make his Yankees debut on Saturday, hitting seventh and playing left field.

Reliever Jonathan Holder was also optioned to Triple-A.
