Tiger-Cats' Austin names June Jones head coach

There's a change in leadership for the on-field product of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, as Kent Austin, vice president of football operations, appointed offensive coordinator June Jones to replace him as head coach Thursday.

Austin will stay on in his front-office position as he relinquishes the head coaching role to Jones, who joined the club as offensive coordinator and assistant head coach Aug. 2.

"June and I have established a great relationship, and I feel comfortable and very confident with him handling the on-field product moving forward," Austin said. "This organization, its fans and partners deserve a championship-caliber team and we fully expect to work together to return us to that level."

Jones has spent over 20 years as a head coach throughout various levels of football, including the Atlanta Falcons in the NFL, and SMU and Hawaii at the NCAA level. The veteran frontman is known for his high-scoring offense and prolific passing game.

He has his work cut out for him with the Tiger-Cats, who remain winless this season at 0-8.

Austin served as head coach for just over four seasons with Hamilton, capturing two East Division titles and making two Grey Cup appearances.
