West Ham confirms loan signing of Joe Hart

Joe Hart will look to revive his career in the English capital after he was unveiled by West Ham United on Tuesday.

The national team No.1 joins from Manchester City on a season-long loan, with reports claiming that the Hammers have an option to buy at the end of the 2017-18 term.

"It's important for me to play football and to get the opportunity to come here and play is absolutely awesome," Hart, who spent last season on loan at Torino, told the club website. "To be playing in the Premier League for a big club like West Ham, I'm really looking forward to the season.

"I've always loved the club. I think you'll struggle to find anyone, apart from the direct opposing fans around London, who doesn't love the club. It's got something about it, it's got a lot history and I've always loved playing against West Ham."

Hart's arrival puts the future of Adrian in doubt after he played second-fiddle to Darren Randolph for a chunk of last season. The 30-year-old shot-stopper has been linked with a return to his native Spain.

Randolph, also 30, will have a fight on his hands to retain a spot between the sticks as Hart is desperate for regular first-team involvement ahead of England's inevitable 2018 World Cup campaign in Russia.

He'll have to rid his game of errors to avoid surrendering his first-choice international role to the likes of Jack Butland and Jordan Pickford, though. Only Palermo's Josip Posavec made more errors (seven) that led to goals last season than Hart (five) across Europe's top five leagues.

His confidence was perhaps tested because of being dumped by Pep Guardiola soon after he took the reins at Manchester City last season, but Hart insists there are no hard feelings for the club he signed for in 2006.

"I'd like to think I've obviously left Manchester City on loan this season, but the club as a whole, especially the supporters, have always been fantastic to me," Hart said. "I'd never change how I feel about that club, as it'll always be a very special club to me.

"It'll be fun to play against them (in a friendly on Aug. 4) because I'll be banned when it comes to the actual season, while I'm sure Manchester United will welcome me with open arms if I get the nod and start the season away at Old Trafford."

West Ham follows the campaign's curtain-raiser at Manchester United on Aug.13 with trips to Southampton and Newcastle United. Fans have to wait until Sept. 11 for the club's home opener against league newcomer Huddersfield Town.
