Report: Rangers inform teams they'll trade Darvish

Dennis Wierzbicki / USA TODAY Sports

The Yu Darvish era in Arlington appears to be nearing an end.

The Texas Rangers are informing interested clubs that they plan to move the Japanese ace before the July 31 trade deadline, sources told Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports on Thursday night.

Rosenthal added that the Rangers are "actively exchanging names" with interested suitors, and that they're "confident" in being able to get an excellent return for the 30-year-old.

Darvish is perhaps the most coveted starter on the trade block this summer, and multiple teams - including the Nationals, Dodgers, Astros, and Cubs - have been said to have interest in acquiring him. The Dodgers, in particular, have been strongly linked to him, and are said to be confident in landing one of either Darvish, Oakland's Sonny Gray, or Detroit's Justin Verlander via trade.

The Cubs are reportedly one of 10 teams on Darvish's no-trade list.

After a stellar career pitching in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball, Darvish left his homeland to join the Rangers on a six-year, $56-million contract prior to the 2011 season. Since then, he's made four All-Star appearances and led the majors in strikeouts once, though he did miss all of 2015 due to Tommy John surgery. He'll be a free agent at season's end.

Darvish was an All-Star this year, but owns a 7.36 ERA in three starts since the break. In his most recent outing Wednesday, he was shelled by the Miami Marlins for a career-worst 10 earned runs in just 3 2/3 innings.

The Rangers, who had an off-day Thursday, sit 4 1/2 games out of a playoff spot with a 49-52 record. They're reportedly open to listening to offers for other veteran players on their roster besides Darvish, save for third baseman Adrian Beltre.
