Report: Rangers open to discussing trades for veterans not named Beltre

The Texas Rangers might be moving closer to throwing in the towel.

Sources told Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News on Tuesday that the Rangers are open to discussing trades for several of their veteran players ahead of the July 31 deadline.

Besides ace Yu Darvish - who's reportedly already available if the "right deal" comes along - the list of Rangers veterans who could potentially be dealt includes outfielder Carlos Gomez, first baseman/designated hitter Mike Napoli, and catcher Jonathan Lucroy.

There is apparently at least some level of interest in each of Gomez, Napoli, and Lucroy from around the league, reports Grant, though it's not clear what teams may be looking at them. Grant also notes that it's unlikely any of them would bring a large return in a trade.

All three players are free agents after this year (though Napoli does have a club option for 2018), and all three are in the midst of down years production-wise.

Player Age 2017 Salary 2017 OPS 2017 WAR
Carlos Gomez 31 $11.5M .795 1.5
Mike Napoli 35 $6M .728 -0.5
Jonathan Lucroy 31 $5.25M .632 0.2

One Rangers veteran who doesn't appear to be on the trading block is star third baseman Adrian Beltre, who could get his 3,000th career base hit in a Rangers uniform as soon as this weekend. The 38-year-old can veto any potential trade given his status as a 10-and-5 player, and he's given no indication of being open to accepting a trade out of Texas, per Grant.

Texas' 4-0 loss to the Miami Marlins on Monday night, its sixth defeat in the last 10 games, dropped it 3 1/2 games back of the second wild-card spot.
