Marlins shell Darvish for 10 runs in potential final Rangers start

Kim Klement / USA TODAY Sports

If this was Yu Darvish's final outing for the Texas Rangers, this definitely wasn't the way he intended to go out.

Darvish was rocked for a total of 10 earned runs Wednesday against the Miami Marlins, who chased the Japanese right-hander off the mound with two outs in the fourth inning. He was replaced by Jeremy Jeffress.

With the July 31 trade deadline just five days away, there exists a possibility that Darvish may have thrown his last pitch for Texas. The club has reportedly received interest in the impending free agent from the Washington Nationals, Houston Astros, Chicago Cubs, and the Los Angeles Dodgers, with the latter three clubs having sent scouts to watch Darvish's previous starts.

It was clear from the get-go Wednesday it was always going to be a long night for the 30-year-old hurler.

Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon, who's hit just nine home runs over 649 career games heading into Wednesday's game, led off the contest with a shot to right-center field to give Miami an early lead. Two batters later, Christian Yelich followed up with his own long ball, however, it wasn't until the fourth where Darvish's start completely unraveled, as the Marlins scored another eight off Darvish to end his night - and possibly his stint with the Rangers - early.
