Report: Nationals showing interest in Darvish

Add the Washington Nationals to the ever-growing list of potential Yu Darvish suitors.

The Nationals are reportedly interested in making a move for the 30-year-old Texas Rangers ace, according to MLB Network's Jon Morosi.

Morosi notes, however, the Nationals aren't sold on Darvish's impending free-agent status, as the club would prefer to acquire a starter with years of control left.

With a relatively weak class of starting pitchers in the upcoming free-agent class, multiple teams have already expressed an interest in picking up Darvish as a rental and getting a head start on the recruitment process. The Los Angeles Dodgers were reported to have a strong interest in the Japanese right-hander, though the Chicago Cubs and Houston Astros have also reportedly sent scouts to watch Darvish during recent starts.

The Rangers will need to be blown away in trade discussions, however, as general manager Jon Daniels is said to have informed trade partners he is only open to moving Darvish for the "right deal."

Darvish would provide a significant boost to any team on the cusp of contention down the stretch. In 21 starts this season, the four-time All-Star is posting a 3.44 ERA and 1.12 WHIP and is already worth 2.5 WAR, just 0.2 points shy of his 2016 tally, according to Fangraphs.
