Report: Yankees reached out to Mets about Reed, Duda

For the New York Yankees, midseason help might only be a quick subway ride away.

The Yankees, in need of reinforcements both at first base and in the bullpen, have reportedly reached out to the crosstown rival Mets to discuss closer Addison Reed and first baseman Lucas Duda, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.

Both Duda and Reed are set to become free agents at season's end.

The Yankees' possible interest in acquiring Duda is not new, as an earlier report Tuesday suggested the club sent scouts to watch the 31-year-old slugger at Citi Field on Monday night - where he did not disappoint, going 2-for-4 with a homer in the Mets' loss to St. Louis.

First base has been a black hole in the Bronx this season; Joe Girardi has used nine different players at the position, and together they've combined for just 14 homers, 40 RBIs, and a .680 OPS.

Reed, who's pitched in Queens since August 2015, took over as the Mets' closer after Jeurys Familia's suspension to open the season, and again claimed the role when Familia landed on the disabled list. The 28-year-old has excelled as Terry Collins' ninth-inning man, recording 15 saves while striking out 45 batters to just five walks over 43 2/3 innings.

In addition to their reported interest in Duda, the Yankees are reportedly discussing a trade with Oakland for All-Star first basemen Yonder Alonso. They've also been connected to other relievers on the market besides Reed, including Philadelphia's All-Star right-hander Pat Neshek.

New York's two baseball teams have not completed a strict player-for-player trade with each other since Dec. 3, 2004, when the Mets sent reliever Mike Stanton to the Bronx in exchange for left-hander Felix Heredia.
