Roma has bolstered its back-line with the acquisition of right-back Rick Karsdorp from Feyenoord.

I Giallorossi announced the signing with a statement on their website Wednesday, adding that Karsdorp joins the club on a five-year deal for an initial fee of €14 million that could rise to €19 million with "various performance-related clauses."

Karsdorp, 22, progressed through the Rotterdam club's academy before going on to make 100 appearances for the reigning Eredivisie champ in all competitions. Last season, the twice-capped Netherlands international enjoyed 30 outings as the club won its first top-flight title in 18 years.

"Coming to AS Roma is a great step forward for me," Karsdrop told Roma's official website. "I come here with a great desire and enthusiasm to play and to realise my dreams."

Handed the No. 26 kit during Wednesday's unveiling, Karsdorp is considered an upgrade on Bruno Peres, and with Mohamed Salah's move to Liverpool, the addition of the Dutchman will allow Alessandro Florenzi to play in a more advanced wing role under recently appointed gaffer Eusebio Di Francesco.

"Despite his young age, Rick has already shown he possesses great talent," Roma's famed sporting director Monchi said.

"We are delighted to be able to sign him, and are certain that his attributes will fit in well with the way coach Eusebio Di Francesco wants to play."
