Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby exited Thursday's contest against the Ottawa Senators in the second period and has been ruled out for the remainder of the game, the team announced.

It's unclear what happened to Crosby. Here's his final shift before he retreated to the Penguins' dressing room.

The outing marked Crosby's fifth appearance since returning from a knee injury he sustained while representing Canada at the Olympics. The ailment caused him to miss the final two games of the tournament and 11 NHL contests afterward.

Crosby has notched five points in four-plus appearances since returning. He's totaled 64 points in 60 games this season.

The Penguins are one of several Eastern Conference teams fighting for a playoff spot. Pittsburgh entered Thursday's contest holding the third spot in the Metropolitan Division, one point clear of the New York Islanders.
