Manchester City confirms departures of Navas, Sagna, Caballero

It promises to be another summer of transition at Manchester City after Jesus Navas, Bacary Sagna, and Willy Caballero were confirmed to be leaving the club following the expiration of their respective contracts in June.

The Etihad Campus outfit announced Gael Clichy's exit earlier on Thursday - something the left-back revealed himself two days ago - and Pablo Zabaleta was given an emotional farewell in City's last home match of the season against West Bromwich Albion.

Now Navas, who joined City from Sevilla in 2013, is on his way. His work rate in the northwest could never be denied, but the Spaniard often frustrated fans with his at times predictable play down the right flank. He seldom weighed in with goals, too, as his last league tally came Jan. 18, 2014 in a 4-2 defeat of Cardiff City.

Sagna, 34, left Arsenal at the end of his contract in 2014, and opted to join Premier League rival City. He's often been behind Zabaleta in the pecking order at right-back, but his arrival did pave the way for academy product Micah Richards' loan to Fiorentina the same summer. He made 14 starts en route to City's third-placed finish in the Premier League this season.

Argentinian goalkeeper Caballero spent much of his time at City as second-fiddle to Joe Hart, but in the 2016-17 season enjoyed a competitive rivalry between the sticks with the error-prone Claudio Bravo. He'll be most fondly remembered for his exploits in the 2016 League Cup final, when he thwarted Liverpool three times in a penalty shootout to inspire the Blues to glory.

There are expected to be further departures from Pep Guardiola's squad. The club's retained list is yet to be released, with questions still looming around the future of Yaya Toure due to his contract winding down next month.
