Pillar undergoes surgery to repair torn thumb ligament
Toronto Blue Jays center fielder Kevin Pillar underwent surgery Friday to repair a torn ligament in his thumb, according to Sportsnet's Shi Davidi.
Pillar is expected to be healthy for spring training, Davidi adds.
The 27-year-old posted a photo to his Instagram following his first day of rehabilitation, showing his left forearm and thumb thoroughly wrapped in a cast:
Pillar initially suffered the injury in August when he jammed his thumb stealing second base against the Kansas City Royals. After a stint on the disabled list, Pillar played the rest of the season with the ligament tear before opting for offseason surgery.
Currently a finalist for a Gold Glove award in the American League, Pillar slashed .266/.303/.376 in 146 games during the regular season.
