Florida State's Doak Campbell Stadium to get $80-million upgrade

Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

Florida State's home field will be getting a face-lift with quite the price tag.

The school's board of trustees unanimously approved an allotment of up to $85 million in bonds that will be used to update Doak Campbell Stadium, Jennifer Portman of the Tallahassee Democrat reported Friday.

It's anticipated that the makeover will feature new sky box suites and a new premium outdoor seating section. The costs will also cover repairs to the building's structure and a new paint job.

It's expected the upgrades will cost $79.5 million, but the bonding allotment is higher than that figure, just to be safe.

The upgrades are due to kick off in June and should be finished by August 2016.

All that remains before the upgrades begin is approval from the Legislature, which is expected to come in the near future, and the OK from Florida's board of governors.

Florida State boosters will raise the dollars from donations, games and royalties to secure the debt.

It is expected that the improvements on the stadium will raise $31.6 million for the school over 30 years, according to school finance officials.
