Saban mum on Alabama's QB battle: 'There's nothing to say'
Alabama head coach Nick Saban isn't ready to share any details on the program's quarterback battle.
The Crimson Tide will turn to one of Jalen Milroe, Ty Simpson, or Tyler Buchner to carry the team under center following the departure of Bryce Young. However, Saban kept his cards close to his chest when asked about the signal-callers on Thursday.
"You're gonna ask me about the quarterbacks every day, and every day I'm gonna tell you the same thing," Saban said, according to ESPN's Alex Scarborough. "You know, everybody's getting reps at the position. Somebody's gotta take the bull by the horns. Somebody's gotta separate themselves. When that happens, we'll tell you. We'll be glad to tell you when we're going to take the cake out of the oven."
He continued: "We will tell you when it's the time, all right? But until then, there's really nothing to talk about. There's nothing to say."
Milroe, who backed up Young last season, recorded five touchdown passes to three interceptions in limited action last year. Meanwhile, Buchner joins the program from Notre Dame via the transfer portal. He'll be linked up with his former Fighting Irish offensive coordinator, Tommy Rees, who holds the same position at Alabama.
Alabama missed the College Football Playoff in 2022, though Saban ended the campaign on a good note by defeating Kansas State in the Sugar Bowl.
