LSU defensive tackle Maason Smith will miss the remainder of the 2022 season after tearing his ACL in Sunday's game against Florida State, a source told The Athletic's Brody Miller.
Smith sustained the injury celebrating a play in the first quarter of LSU's season-opening loss. He exited the contest and did not return.
The six-foot-five, 300-pound sophomore was expected to be a valuable piece in the center of the Tigers' defense this season.
Smith racked up 19 tackles, five tackles for loss, and four sacks during his freshman year in 2021. He was named a freshman All-SEC selection despite missing a few games toward the end of the campaign.
Mekhi Wingo and Jaquelin Roy took a majority of snaps at defensive tackle in Smith's absence.
