Former Fresno State quarterback David Carr was briefly a teammate of Lane Kiffin's in 1997. He also witnessed the start of Kiffin's coaching career and shared the story in an interview with Watch Stadium.

As Carr explained, Kiffin - then a fifth-year player - was upset about losing reps to him (a freshman), so he showed up to his last day of practice in shorts and a T-shirt. Kiffin was ordered off the field by the coaching staff, but returned 30 minutes later in a new role: the Bulldogs' assistant wide receivers coach.

Kiffin took issue with a couple of the details Carr provided, though.

Following his stint at Fresno State, Kiffin went on to land coaching jobs with Colorado State, the Jacksonville Jaguars, Oakland Raiders, USC, Tennessee, Alabama, and now, Florida Atlantic.
