Vernon Carey will be playing basketball at Duke this fall.

The 6-foot-10 center announced his decision on live television Thursday at his high school gym.

Carey was one of the most coveted recruits in the class of 2019, as schools such as Kentucky, Michigan State, Miami, and North Carolina were also vying for his services.

He is ranked third overall by ESPN.

Carey joins fellow five-star prospect Wendell Moore and four-star prospect Rejean Ellis, who both signed with the Blue Devils.

“The reason why I chose Duke is Coach K and the recruiting class they're bringing in this year ... Hopefully, some guys will come with me,” Carey said on ESPN, according to Zagsblog's Adam Zagoria.

Carey added, "They see me as a positionless player, they say that I can be anywhere on the court, so that will work well with me."

Carey was a member of the United States' gold medal-winning squad at the 2017 FIBA U-16 Americas and earned tournament MVP honors.
