Spurs' season tickets, online sales surge after drafting Wembanyama
The San Antonio Spurs' selection of French phenom Victor Wembanyama is already paying off.
Since winning the draft lottery on May 16, the team has received around 4,000 new season-ticket deposits, Spurs Sports and Entertainment's Lucy Kaneb told Madalyn Mendoza of Axios San Antonio.
The Spurs also experienced a 3,000% increase in year-over-year online traffic and sales in the first 48 hours after drafting Wembanyama No. 1 overall.
The city is feeling the effects of Wembanyama as well; tourism agency Visit San Antonio told Mendoza that audience growth for its social media channels has increased by 26% since the draft lottery.
The Spurs finished the 2022-23 season last in the Western Conference at 22-60 and failed to make the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year.
