76ers' Rivers: Maxey out 'at least a couple more weeks'
Philadelphia 76ers head coach Doc Rivers says Tyrese Maxey will remain sidelined beyond the reported original timeline of three-to-four weeks.
Maxey hasn't played since Nov. 18, when he fractured a bone in his right foot against the Milwaukee Bucks.
"Whatever he has to do, he's nowhere near it," Rivers told reporters after Thursday's practice, according to Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer. "So I would say he's out at least, I don't know, for at least a couple more weeks."
Maxey was among the front-runners for the NBA's Most Improved Player award prior to his injury. The Kentucky product was averaging 22.9 points, 4.4 assists, and 3.5 boards over 15 appearances. His scorching 70% mark on corner threes ranks in the 100th percentile among combo guards, according to Cleaning the Glass.
Maxey has missed the 76ers' past 12 contests, with the club going 7-5 during that span. Fifth-year guard De'Anthony Melton has done a solid job starting in Maxey's place, posting 15.5 points, 3.6 assists, and 3.1 steals per contest across his last 11 games.
