Schroder pokes fun at Celtics contract, invites 'fumbled the bag' jokes

Dennis Schroder might not be laughing all the way to the bank, but he's still laughing.

The veteran point guard inked a one-year deal worth a reported $5.9 million with the Boston Celtics this summer, just months after it was reported he had turned down extension offers from the Los Angeles Lakers in the range of $80 million.

But after taking some criticism for boldly betting on himself in free agency, the 28-year-old is opening up the floor to some self-deprecating humor in celebration of his 28th birthday Wednesday.

"I'm gonna do this one time!" Schroder wrote on his Instagram. "Insert your best 'fumbled the bag' joke here.

"It's my birthday so let's get this over with and get back to business."

It isn't the first time Schroder's interacted with fans of his new team. With his traditional No. 17 retired by the Celtics in honor of John Havlicek, the German ball-handler is allowing fans to vote on what his new jersey number will be for the 2021-22 season.
