Report: 76ers offer Simmons 5-year, $170M max extension

The Philadelphia 76ers have offered Ben Simmons a five-year, $170-million max extension and the two sides are expected to work through the details toward an agreement, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

It was first reported Sunday that Simmons and the Sixers were engaged in contract talks. Simmons is eligible for a max rookie-scale extension beginning in 2020, which can be worth up to 25 percent of Philadelphia's salary cap.

The soon-to-be 23-year-old is one of the NBA's top playmakers but has yet to find his shooting touch from outside of 10 feet. He's attempted just 17 shots from beyond the arc in 160 games over two seasons.

Philadelphia is currently in the midst of a roster overhaul. With Jimmy Butler on the way out, the team retained Tobias Harris and added Al Horford.
